   In my current role as the Organic and Environmental Metals Section Supervisor, I lead a team of highly qualified scientists that deliver analytical reports to support the Division of Public Health Systems at the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention (Maine CDC), an agency of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The goal of these efforts is to protect the health and lives of people in Maine by strengthening the ability of health agencies and partner organizations to detect, contain and manage public health threats and emergencies.Representative Responsibilities:• Utilizing highly sophisticated techniques such as gas chromatography (GC-ECD, GC-MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-MS/MS, HPLC-FD), total organic carbon analyzers (TOC Analyzer), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), my section analyzes water samples, soils, and leachates for organic chemicals such as PCBs, volatiles, and pesticides and for metal contaminants, such as lead (Pb), arsenic (As), manganese (Mn), or uranium (U).• In concert with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, my team provides water sample analyses to assure compliance with Maine’s Water Quality Standards, which are based on Section 303(c) of the federal Clean Water Act (CWA), and with compliance with the state\'s Drinking Water Program (DWP).• The section maintains accreditation through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).• In support of Maine\'s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program my team provides environmental lead analyses.
