ABOUT ED SCHMIDT
A seasoned expert in the world of startups, I founded my first company whilst at school and have continued on my entrepreneurial journey ever since. Upon completing my master’s degree in Economics and Sinology (graduating top-of-class), I spent 5 years in Beijing establishing two ventures, and later joined the founding team of the Groupon/Tencent JV. This involved launching Groupon in the Chinese market and afterwards supporting their post-IPO phase in Central Europe. I spent 5 years in Rakuten working with various business units, whilst also becoming the co-founder of a digital-broker insurance spin-off. In 2018 I joined Wind Mobility as CEO EMEA, where I was building a groundbreaking and innovative business model for the shared mobility market. We grew the business from a single city to over ten countries and 150k weekly rides. With our industry-first technology, we fully cemented ourselves as pioneers in the market. In addition, I established and chaired Wind’s Sustainability Committee, where I ensured a truly green company footprint and a sustainable strategy across all function areas, and brought the company on the path to carbon neutrality. When Covid hit Europe, I set up my own consultancy focused on medium stage startups and their global expansion. During 2021, my company led the Europe launch of a major fintech, and assisted Superpedestrian through their first season on the old continent. Later I joined them as EVP Global Operations.
