I\'ve written songs that range from staring down a shotgun barrel (true) to finding out I\'m not Russian as I’d originally thought (also true). Turns out I\'m Irish.(Thanks 23 and Me!) My song about that, St. Vincent de Paul, won the Nashville Songwriter’s Association Song of the Year. I put my first record out when I was 48 and surprisingly it became a Roots Radio Top 100 for 2012, and ranked as high as number 12 in Europe. It included cameos by some of my friends, like Josh Ritter, Tift Merritt, and Meg Hutchinson. That year, I also joined Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, and James McMurtry as a winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition. That was a thrill, let me tell you.My follow up record in 2018, The Orphan King, produced by Simone Felice, features Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, Rachael Yamagata, Kenneth Pattengale (of the Milk Carton Kids) and Cindy Cashdollar.
