About Ed Gorzkowski

I am currently a Materials Research Engineer working in the area of ceramics and ceramic polymer composites. I have extensive experience in processing and properties of dielectric and ferroelectric ceramics. My current research focuses on high energy density capacitors using a glass ceramic approach, a novel method to create composite capacitors using directional freezing, IED detection and defeat, electrical and mechanical fatigue and fracture of ferroelectric single crystals, and energy mitigation materials.Specialties: My technical areas of expertise include: ceramics powder processing; sintering and grain growth behavior including on the nano-scale; materials characterization using thermal analysis (TGA, DTA/DSC, dilatometry), microscopy (LOM, SEM/EDS, TEM, FIB), x-ray diffraction, particle size analysis; and electric properties characterization including dielectric properties, piezoelectric properties, energy density, breakdown, and resistivity.
