About Ed Collet
I have over 20 years of experience in the domestic and international utility industry as a field service and performance test engineer. I have tuned combustion systems ranging from single burner natural gas units to coal fired units with 97 burners. These tuning programs required the collection, compilation, and evaluation of data from many sources including plant data, temporary test instrumentation and advanced combustion diagnostics systems. Data analysis is only part of the combustion tuning process; there is an art to interpreting the visual cues in the furnace that I have developed from tuning dozens of boilers around the world. With electrical grid demands pushing coal units to lower and lower load levels, tuning units to achieve the best performance at reduced loads is essential to their economic viability.I have performed pulverizer inspections, primary air calibrations, and coal fineness testing and performance analysis. In conjunction with improving customers with pulverizer maintenance planning I have been the technical adviser for several overhauls.My areas of expertise in the fire service are hydraulics, pump operations, water supply, RIT, auto extrication and rope rescue. Pump operation is my passion. From derivations, calculations, and testing it is one of the most important positions on the fire ground and requires a wealth of knowledge. I developed the current curriculum for the pump operator class for the BGSU State Fire School. I believe that training and passing on knowledge is vital for the advancement of the next generation of firefighters along with sharpening the skills of the current generations.
