About Liz Buckle

Hey there – I\'m Liz, and my journey to the health IT space has been an interesting one! Many years ago, I worked for my dad’s cardiology practice in Parkersburg, WV doing the most fun parts of any practice at the time – pulling paper charts, filing paper charts, and medical billing.[Insert sarcasm.] I also assisted their team in transitioning from paper to their first EHR. After obtaining my Master’s degree in Springfield, MO, I relocated to Atlanta, GA and started both my professional career and my family. I had the privilege of being the first Project Coordinator on Greenway Health’s Interoperability Services team. At the time, we had a backlog of mostly HL7 v2 interface projects that had a 6-9 month wait for a development resource. Through project management and streamlining efforts, we got the wait time down to 2-4 weeks. From there, I joined the product management team and began working on the EHR product lines and interoperability solutions. If you look back in my LinkedIn history, you’ll see that I took a short break from my professional career. When my second child was born, he had some medical issues that we needed to overcome. Thankfully, I have two healthy and thriving kids today! When I was ready to re-enter the professional arena, I had the great fortune of being connected to the Provision Team and able to support two national interoperability initiatives: DirectTrust and CommonWell Health Alliance. At DirectTrust, I worked with the President and CEO to launch the EHR Roundtable bringing together more than 90% of the EHR market to discuss common issues with Direct Secure Messaging. We also launched a Consensus Body to draft an implementation guide on how to use Direct to send and receive ADT notifications, in response to the CMS patient access and interoperability rule. Today, I work alongside the Executive Director of CommonWell to support the Alliance’s vision that patients’ health data should be available regardless of where past care has occurred. I oversee bringing concepts from ideation to full use cases, through technical design, and on to fruition from a product and strategy perspective. On a personal note, I live in Wilmington, NC with my two kids, Olivia and Noah, and our black lab, JC (short for Johnny Cash). Most of my non-working hours are spent being a mom, but I also volunteer with the Junior League of Wilmington as Co-Chair of Communications and a dog foster mom with a local rescue. Otherwise, you can usually find me at the beach or on my porch with a cup of coffee in hand.
