I have been a travel agent for 30 years.I went to Turkey for the first time in 1994. I was fascinated by the poet/philosopher Mevlana Rumi and wanted to visit his tomb in Konya and go to a dervish ceremony. What I discovered-besides Turkey\'s history and the beauty and mystery of the Sufi philosophy-was a country filled with surprisingly friendly, hospitable people and an amazing cuisine (including the world\'s best tomatoes). I kept going back. Once I went for 6 months and rented a car and drove all over Turkey. I decided I wanted to live there.I didn\'t want to leave my job as a travel agent with Protravel International in New York, but I wanted clients to have the best possible experience of the Turkey I loved. So in 2002, while remaining with ProTravel, I also opened Sophisticated-Travel in Istanbul, with the goal of showing travelers \"the real Turkey\" and providing them with a close cultural experience of its people, food, history, and art.
