ABOUT EHSAN GHARAEI
I started my career as an engineer. I spent years close to the code, building e-commerce platforms for Mercedes-Benz, then large-scale frontend systems for Volkswagen. I loved the craft of it.But somewhere along the way I realised the thing I cared about most wasn\'t the code itself. It was the people writing it.That\'s what led me into management. For the past 3+ years I\'ve been leading engineering teams at diconium(Volkswagen Group\'s digital subsidiary) managing hiring, onboarding, performance, and career growth for a team of frontend and fullstack engineers working on some of Germany\'s most recognised automotive platforms. Before the formal title, I was already doing the work: coordinating workstreams, mentoring engineers, sitting in stakeholder meetings, making sure the team had what they needed to do their best work. What I\'ve learned is that the best engineering teams aren\'t just technically strong. They feel safe to take risks, they know where they\'re going, and they believe their growth matters to the people above them. Build that environment and the delivery follows. Every time.Right now I\'m particularly focused on how engineering teams navigate the shift AI is bringing, not just technically, but as people. The engineers I talk to aren\'t worried about the architecture. They\'re worried about whether they\'ll still be relevant. That\'s a leadership challenge, and it\'s one I take seriously.I\'m based in Hamburg and open to Engineering Manager roles, remote-first or hybrid, where engineering leadership is genuinely valued, not just a title on an org chart. If that sounds like your team, I\'d love to connect.
