About Dylan Slayton
I am a senior at CSU Long Beach building a career in process controls engineering. As a chemical engineering major, I have always been intrigued by how humanity is able to manipulate the atomic scale to achieve the macro level results chemists give us, and how engineers can bring that to the industrial scale for mass production. Process automation engineering is fascinating to me as it combines my interest in chemistry with my hobbies in electrical equipment and programming. Being a chemical engineering major gives me a unique perspective on automation engineering compared to an electrical engineering background by understanding the process to be automated and process control. This is particularly useful for making fault-routines, which make up maybe 80% of all code put into an optimized DCS or PLC for plant usage. In my free time, I write JavaScript to make VFX for the VR rhythm game Beat Saber, find an occasional software engineering project such as converting a MIDI keyboard to a virtual flight stick, improve on my DIY ebike, play with my dog, video and photo edit, and learn something new in STEM on YouTube.
