Inclusive leadership development, organizational change, and supporting Black youth to academically thrive are of the highest priorities for me. Please see one recent reference letter below.\"The Black Student Union at my son’s elementary school meant so much to both of us. In apredominantly white school and community, it gave him a place to belong — a space wherebeing Black-identified wasn’t something to explain or defend, but something to celebrate.Through open and thoughtful conversations, the kids explored complex topics around race andidentity while building friendships rooted in understanding and allyship. Most importantly, theBSU helped them develop a deep sense of pride and safety within their community, knowingthey had a place where they could show up as their whole, colorful selves.Pioneering the group and driving institutional change at large, Dwayne Thomas ensured clearand consistent communication among parent volunteers and helped establish realistic,sustainable goals for the organization. As a single mother new to the community, his steadysupport and follow-up were instrumental in helping me feel that there was a place in Richmondnot only for my son as a student but for me as a parent. I could not have made it through theyear without the encouragement of fellow BSU parents like Dwayne, nor without the support ofRichmond’s administration and leadership. My only wish is that we could return to be part of andcontinue building the beautiful mosaic that now exists — one born from the love and dedicationof a few.\"
