ABOUT DAWN WALTON
I started as Vice President of Medical Affairs at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital the week before the pandemic hit our area in full force. This position provided the incredible opportunity to solve the unique infection control, supply chain, resource allocation, resiliency, staffing, financial, research and clinical problems created by Covid-19 providing a lifetime of experience in a short period of time. The world changed dramatically in 2020 and healthcare delivery was completely disrupted. My new executive role leveraged years of clinical and leadership experience in academic and community hospital settings as a managing partner in our Neonatology practice. The challenge of providing critical care to the some of the smallest and most vulnerable humans instilled in me patience and perseverance that allows me to calmly approach emergency situations and lead my teams through to successful outcomes. I completed the Executive MBA program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business to complement my experiences and prepare me to take on roles to impact the delivery of healthcare more globally. My willingness to bring together multidisciplinary teams to address the challenges of the pandemic in both medication management and streamlining our research programs to provide necessary medications, led to an additional role as Vice President of Cancer Care, Pharmacy and Research for our region. In this role I was able to lead a large regional pharmacy team and gain knowledge of this important part of hospital infrastructure and operations and had over 200 colleagues reporting up to me. In addition, I had responsibility for our Radiation Treatment Center and development of our Comprehensive Cancer Center while working to regionalize our IRB services and research programs. I jumped at the opportunity to return to my pediatric roots as the Chief Medical Officer at Studer Family Children\'s Hospital. In this position I also serve as the physician advisor which allows me to better understand the vital roles of utilization management, CDI and reimbursement, and I proudly gained my ACPA certification. I have played a crucial role in the successful partnership of SFCH with Nemours Children\'s Health, allowing us to expand our subspeciality care for our patients in our region, a job that has been a highlight of my career. It has been an amazing leadership journey. Each day that I am able to support excellence in neonatal and pediatric care motivates me to continue to innovate and lead our teams toward further success. I look forward to a bright future!
