About Dustin Loehr

Dustin Loehr is an arts education policy leader, practitioner, and teaching artist active throughout Arizona and nationally recognized for his advocacy and federal policy expertise. Most recently, Loehr began working as a Federal Consultant, serving as a Technical Assistance Lead, Project Manager, and Logistics Coordinator. Loehr formally served as the Director of Arts Education & Title IV-A for the Arizona Department of Education where he oversaw well-rounded education, safe & healthy students, and digital learning- ensuring every student receives a well-rounded and artful education. He was responsible for overseeing the management of the Title IV-A or “Student Support & Academic Enrichment Grant” as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act. He previously filled the Well-Rounded Education Chair for the National Title IV-A Coalition Board of Directors and was the Vice President for the State Education Directors of Arts Education from 20••••21. Loehr is also a performing artist specializing in original tap/spoken word solo performances. His performance career focuses on presenting life memories and experiences as full-length experiences that juxtapose universal truths and myths- using tap dance as a vehicle for this expression and social justice. Loehr is an active teaching artist previously working with several community arts organizations including Childsplay, East Valley Children\'s Theatre, Theatre Works, Arizona Curriculum Theatre, Arizona Homeschool Theatre and more. Dustin received his AA in Acting from Mesa Community College, his BA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance with an emphasis in Directing/Choreographing, Stage Management and solo performance from ASU, and his MA in Humanities in Expressive Arts & Education from Prescott College. His scholarly work centered on arts-based research, curriculum design and implementation, collaborative theory, and organic inquiry within systems-thinking. Utilizing the transformative and healing potential of the expressive arts within educational and community-based settings, Loehr’s performance-based research explores the universal language of percussive dance with indigenous people and contemporary tap dance. Dustin is also a contributing author, collaborating on numerous texts on the art of storytelling, arts education, and data-informed advocacy and practice. He is currently working on a series of children’s picture books. As an arts nonprofit leader, Loehr is experienced in strategic planning and capacity building, board development, and managing nonprofit operations and programming.
