ABOUT DUSTIN BRUZEE

With 27 years of law enforcement experience, I’ve had the privilege of serving the Chula Vista community in a variety of roles that have shaped my approach to leadership, integrity, and service. I currently serve as a Police Lieutenant overseeing the Professional Standards Unit, where I lead our efforts in recruitment, background investigations, hiring, internal affairs, policy development, and training. Helping develop the next generation of public safety professionals—and ensuring they have the training, support, and guidance they need to succeed—is one of the most meaningful parts of my career.I also serve as the Crisis Negotiation Team Commander, a role that requires empathy, composure, and the ability to guide teams through high-stakes, emotionally charged situations. I’m passionate about leading with a calm, people-first approach that prioritizes the safety and well-being of everyone involved.Before stepping into my current administrative and leadership roles, I spent many years working investigations, including sexual assault, homicide, and crimes of violence. I also helped advance the department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) and broader UAS program—one of the most forward-thinking tools we use to enhance public safety and respond quickly and effectively to critical incidents.Across every assignment, my focus has remained the same: building a department rooted in professionalism, accountability, innovation, and a genuine commitment to the community we serve.
