ABOUT DURBA BISWAS

I am trained as an environmental economist and my Ph.D. research was on estimating the economic value of canal irrigation water in North Karnataka. In recent years my research approach has become increasingly interdisciplinary. Presently, I am focused on water and sanitation (WASH) issues in India. My current research focus is broadly on the mainstreaming of gender and minorities in national and state level sanitation and water policies. The relationship between gendered agency and access to water and sanitation is central to my research work. I am collaborating with national and international universities, NGOs, and research organisations on multiple projects. My recent work has been located in the urban and peri-urban slums and villages in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
