ABOUT MICHELLE DUONG

As an Intern Architect at KWC Architects, Michelle is expanding her knowledge of the architectural and building industries, and is particularly interested in the approaches and treatments of historic buildings and sites. She is also an Executive Committee Member (Communications Co-Chair) of CIPA Heritage Documentation, an ICOMOS and ISPRS Scientific Committee. She remains a member of the CIPA Emerging Professionals Leadership Team having served as Co-Coordinator, supporting her peers in advocating for inter-generational exchange and the importance of heritage site documentation as one key part of the conservation process. Michelle hopes to contribute to enhancing the experience of visitors and residents in built spaces while prolonging the life and use of beloved buildings, and to share knowledge that will foster cultural exchange, build empathy, and create understanding. Michelle holds a Master of Architecture degree from Carleton University and Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree from the University of Waterloo. She has also completed a degree in History and Theory of Architecture, with a minor in Greek and Roman Studies, and a graduate diploma in Architectural Conservation, also at Carleton. Her studies have given her opportunities to travel, live, and study abroad in Europe, Asia, and South America. Her thesis focused on the interpreted North Korean cultural heritage through analysis of the architectural and intangible heritage in Korean drama that was based largely on oral testimonies. She has keen interests in the conservation of historic architecture that considers both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
