About Duncan Byers

I am a partner at Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani with a focus on intellectual property law and complex civil litigation throughout the United States. I handle all aspects of intellectual property law: conducting IP audits, drafting and negotiating technology and IP transfers. I also handle state and federal appeals. I\'m always enthusiastic about learning new technology and facing novel challenges in both law and technology, ambiguous/complex situations, dissection and protection of innovative new technologies, and finding creative solutions. LAW PRACTICE:My practice focuses on intellectual property protection and complex litigation. This includes intellectual property prosecution, as well as handling related matters in the Federal Administrative Courts of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I am currently admitted in Virginia, the federal courts of the Fourth Circuit, the Third Circuit, the Federal Circuit, the Court of Federal Claims, and other federal jurisdictions including the Federal Courts for the District of Nebraska.I handle litigation matters in both state and federal court, as well as appellate courts at the state and federal level. I am experienced as local counsel in the Eastern District of Virginia, and in insurance defense counsel for intellectual property matters. I work with new and existing technology companies in various areas from UAV and related technology to leveraging real-time video data.I am a disabled vet, served on two guided missile destroyers, and reserve duty with a helicopter squadron based out of Norfolk Naval Air Station. I spent several years working as a commercial and industrial electrician, and 19 years as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. I have a BS and MS in Chemistry, and conducted trace metal speciation research in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
