ABOUT DUNCAN MACKINNON

On a rain-soaked afternoon in the Scottish Highlands sometime in the mid 90\'s, a packed Volvo 400 carried my family home from a camping trip. We were covered in midge bites, soaking wet and a fight was breaking out on the cramped back seat. When the noise reached an unbearable level for my parents in the front, their secret weapon was deployed. A brand new tape was prised from cellophane and slotted into the deck, seating itself with a satisfying clunk. Turning back and asking for some peace, my father hit play on the tapedeck, unknowingly triggering a sequence of events that culminated with me being where I am today. Banjo chords reverberated. The fighting subsided. A spacy string melody soared as we gunned it across a moor. Silence from the back. I was enthralled. The tape was the Hitchhiker\'s Guide to the Galaxy and the soundscape created by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop was my first understanding of the creative potential of sound. Over the last 10 years in games I have adapted to working in different genres and styles; the animalistic realism of the Jurassic World Evolution titles, the full throttle pulse and hum of F1 Manager, and the arty space fantasy of Elite Dangerous.
