As a Senior Estates Officer for Primary Care in the Central Area (BCUHB), I hold a key leadership role overseeing the operational management, compliance, and strategic development of the Health Board’s extensive primary care and community estate, comprising over 40 properties across North Wales. These include GP and dental surgeries, health centres, and community hospitals that support thousands of patient interactions every day.I lead a multidisciplinary team of around 40 estates professionals, including Estates Officers, Team Leaders, Engineers, Environmental Officers, technical staff, and administrative support personnel responsible for compliance, helpdesk, and finance functions. During periods of escalation or absence, I provide senior oversight for a wider operational workforce of 71 employees, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant estate operations. I also continue to support Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Abergele Hospital, providing governance and technical assurance to these key facilities.My responsibilities include leading day-to-day estates operations and compliance across the Central Area’s primary care sites, ensuring statutory and mandatory compliance with HTMs, HBNs, and ACoPs, and managing capital projects, backlog programmes, and refurbishment schemes. I provide strategic input into asset lifecycle planning, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals, supporting the Health Board’s Net Zero commitments.I hold budgetary responsibility and accountability for an estates budget of £14.7 million, comprising £3.4m pay, £1.5m non-pay, £1.8m discretionary, and £8m utilities, ensuring robust financial governance, value for money, and delivery of cost improvement programmes.This senior management role demands strong technical governance, financial accountability, and people leadership. I’m dedicated to maintaining safe, compliant, and sustainable healthcare environments that enable the continuous delivery of high-quality patient care across the region.
