About Duke Dunham

Duke is a licensed Architect, who is currently a Doctor of Design (DDes) candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). Where he is currently working on his master’s thesis focused on the spatial implications of California’s attempt to decarbonize their economy. Specifically looking at the role of urban refineries in Los Angeles and imagining a new future for these sites of immense consequence and potential. Duke has previously worked on urban research with Collective Operations looking into architectural design guidelines in 30 cities across North America. Through the use of natural language models to determine whether design guidelines align with city policies or provide excessive restrictions limiting urban development. Duke previously received his Masters of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) at the University of Southern California (USC), along with a minor in Business from the Marshall School of Business. During his studies he began to design and renovate a 1964 Airstream Globetrotter for himself into a design studio that also doubles as an apartment and has since given him greater freedom to awaken the emerging professional. Using this newly gained tool he was able to take advantage of an opportunity in Santa Barbara that has laid the groundwork for the emphasis on design build that has since shaped his education and professional aspirations.In his spare time he is regularly engaged in the profession attending conferences and lectures throughout the area. Along with this he is constantly inspired by disruptors in other industries learning through books and interviews striving to grasp an understanding of their passion. While in the process of obtaining his architecture license he strives to work with motivated individuals that are venturing to make a difference in the lives of others.
