Recently a business partner of mine said - you\'re not like the other IT guys I know. She even said she sometimes forgot I even worked in IT. Some IT professionals may view this as a negative, but for me, this was a nice professional compliment and speaks to my strengths. She concluded that nine out of ten IT people just don\'t \'get it\', but I did.To me, ‘get it’ means - people, process, and technology. In that order. It is more than just knowing the mechanics of the job. That\'s the easy part. It’s about understanding the ‘why’, putting yourself in the shoes of the partner, and working hard at mastering the nuances and subtleties in building relationships. The little things absolutely matter.I’ve been described as an ambassador for IT, yet I advocate and speak authoritatively as if I was part of the business team.
