Duane is the leader of KPMG Winnipeg’s Tax group. His practice provides an effective review of all forms of taxation to an organization with the objective of reducing the overall tax to the entity and its owners through tax savings or tax deferral techniques. The review includes both Canadian based and cross border concepts which can result in permanent or deferred reduction in tax rates. Duane has conducted the tax review for numerous clients and in all cases identified a number of tax saving opportunities for the companies and their owners.His tax practice prepares all forms of tax and information returns, tax elections, tax estimates, ruling requests, voluntary disclosure requests, and other correspondence with federal and provincial tax authorities. Respond to audit requests from federal and provincial tax authorities, and effectively manage a tax audit and related negotiations with the authorities including the Canada Revenue Agency and the IRS. KPMG provides tax programs to assist in the development of their client’s tax accounting methods and systems, for reporting under Canadian Private Company GAAP, IFRS, or other standards.Specialties: • Identifying, providing and implementing tax opportunities for clients.• Tax minimization planning, including the use of family trusts, income splitting and other tax planning techniques.• Corporate reorganizations including structuring acquisitions and dispositions tax-effectively • Research and development tax credit claims. • Corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals.Duane provides clients with tax advice that goes beyond simple compliance.
