About Danny T.
Highly caffeinated (responsibly) serving to leave the world better than he found it. Danny Tizon is responsible for policy and operations for the Field Leadership Directorate, Office of Response & Recovery, Federal Emergency Management Agency. He represents and works with hundreds of field leaders and 18 National and Regional Response/Recovery Teams. Most recently serving as an Executive Officer on a National Incident Management Team, he has been with FEMA for over four years. Danny served as a Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Advisor nationwide, including Guam. He led tactical capacity building and organizational change through human resource development, continuous improvement, expanding partnerships, political navigation, and implementation of special teams. He also mentors rising professionals within all levels of education. He graduated from Western Carolina University with a BS in Emergency & Disaster Management, minor in Leadership. Serving as an Assistant Chief of EMS, he served the Western NC region through community engagement, “Stop the Bleed” public bleeding control course and rescue kit access, and the mitigation of COVID-19. After leaving the agency, he created a scholarship that provides professional development for WCU EMS employees. His decade in service includes local, state, private, and nonprofit leadership in human capital, crisis management, fire protection, healthcare, and business continuity. Duke University Health System and Wolfspeed, a global leader in electronics, are two notable organizations he contributed to and learned from. Civil Air Patrol, Community Emergency Response Teams, Team Rubicon, Samaritan\'s Purse, and similar orgs are also part of Danny\'s roots - where he continues to be an advocate in service learning for community resilience. Danny also studies post-traumatic growth and volunteers for Boulder Crest Foundation, a nonprofit teaching veterans, first responders, and their families how to turn their struggle into strength. Danny’s accomplishments include creating community service partnerships nationwide, 2017 Firefighter of the Year, intergovernmental committee work resulting in public safety investments, research to increase mental health wellness in public safety, a FEMA Core Values Award in 2022, and a Territory of Guam Commendation in 2023. Despite his high commitment to service, Danny prioritizes “life first, work second” and enjoys spending time with family/friends, living an active lifestyle, traveling, volunteering, and can be found petting animals or at your nearest Buc-ee’s…or both.
