ABOUT KYLE TILMAN
I\'ve been lucky to be part of many initiatives to build new products. Past experiences have exposed me to many technologies. As I progress in my career, I realize that the specific technologies I\'ve touched matters less than how I approach problems. In the end, I am a problem solver. Here are some of my values:No Ego - I don\'t know everything. Far from it really. Continued learning is an important state of mind. I respect and desire opinions from those around me. I think the best way to help my team is by serving their needs and not by pushing my own convictions.Iterate - Opinions change over time and problems often have many solutions. I evaluate each solution and recognize that each has its tradeoffs. Let\'s talk about the tradeoffs, make a decision, move forward and then re-evaluate. Let\'s iterate in our products and in life.Give Back - Knowledge should be disseminated. Teaching and mentoring are actions that I feel are largely ignored in this field and yet so vital. Open source is also important. Thats why I blog, code review, mentor, and submit changes upstream. Seeing colleagues grow is one of my highest achievements.Craftsmanship - I love the work I do. I work with passion and craftsmanship and I encourage others to do the same. What I leave behind me is just as important as the problem I am solving. I try to make code readable, understandable and single non-negotiable is that any opportunity must be 100% remote on a remote team. I have been working remotely successfully for 6 years and I want to continue that. Company mission is super important to me. I want to be a part of helping people. That means some of my favorite industries are healthcare, education, and non-profit. I\'m also open to dev-tooling and other spaces where I\'m helping humans.Historically I\'ve done professional programming with Javascript, Node.js, Python, Go, Scala and more. I\'ve done everything from frontend and mobile development to systems and infra engineering.Currently, I think I can have the most impact as a backend engineer but I love positions that stretch me and my skills. That said, I love functional programming and would love a job doing Node, Scala or Clojure. There are so many ways to describe a good culture. In short, I\'m looking for a company where everyone is treated as an equal regardless of background. I desire a no-ego, perspective searching, safe space to grow and help grow.If you have opportunities that you think could be a good fit, please send a Job Description and I\'d love to get back to you.
