Who am I? Just a man with dust on his hands and names in his head, chasing echoes, piecing together lives that time tried to scatter like leaves in a hard wind. Forty years now, maybe more, I’ve been at this—standing in graveyards where the stones lean and the lichen spreads, where silence lingers heavy. I read the names, trace the letters carved by hands long gone, listening for voices only the past remembers.Before the glow of screens, before the hum of machines did the work for lesser men, I was there, elbow-deep in brittle papers, fingers smudged with ink faded but never lost. The old records whispered secrets in looping script penned by clerks who never imagined their words would outlive them. I followed the trail where it led—across oceans, down roads that once knew the shuffle of my ancestors’ feet, through towns that wore different names when they lived and breathed.And always, the walls. Genealogical ones, the kind built from missing pages, misspelled names, stories no one wrote down. But walls don’t scare me. No, I scale them, carve my way through brick by brick, with the stubbornness of a man who knows that buried things don’t stay buried forever—not if you’re willing to dig.I am not just a keeper of names, not some collector of dates stamped into cold stone. I’m a storyteller, a resurrectionist, dragging the forgotten back into the light. As long as we remember them, as long as we whisper their names, they are never truly gone. So I search, I tell, I remember. And in that remembering, they live.
