David A. Songco, PsyD, LP-HSP, CGP, FAGPAPsychologist | Educator | Healthcare Innovator | Behavioral Health LeaderI’m a clinical psychologist and educator with a passion for integrating behavioral health into primary care and community spaces. As Director of Behavioral Health and Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, I lead initiatives that bridge mental health, family medicine, and innovative training programs to better serve diverse populations.My recent work includes securing major grants to advance behavioral health access and education. As Principal Investigator for the Advancing Access to Behavioral Health Care in Rural Jefferson and Dodge Counties project through the support of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment, I’m addressing workforce shortages through community-based models and sustainable treatment frameworks. I’m also co-leading efforts to establish an Addiction Medicine Fellowship in Milwaukee, tackling the opioid crisis by training the next generation of addiction medicine physicians. Additionally, I’ve contributed to implementing low-threshold MOUD (Medications for Opioid Use Disorder) clinics to increase access to care for those most in need.I’ve built training programs that include behavioral health externships, collaborative care models for addiction medicine, and health education groups for underserved communities. My recent achievements include receiving the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology for expanding access to behavioral health, developing innovative education for future psychologists, and championing health equity.I’m also proud to have earned MCW’s Outstanding Medical Student Teacher Award (2024), a recognition of my dedication to mentoring and guiding the next generation of compassionate clinicians.Beyond academics, I work at the intersection of mental health and the arts, serving as consulting psychologist for the Milwaukee Ballet School and Academy. I’m deeply invested in supporting performing artists and integrating psychological safety into high-performance environments.I’d love to connect with fellow professionals passionate about healthcare innovation, mental health equity, and the power of education to create sustainable change.
