About Dan Shenk-Evans

As a CIO with executive experience, I’m driven to implement innovative technologies that improve lives and make the world a more peaceful and sustainable place. I do not view technology as the end goal, but instead envision it as a transformative catalyst that can be used by mission-driven organizations for the good of humanity and the Earth. Currently I am the CIO at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a world-renowned think tank focused on improving peaceful diplomatic relationships across the globe and creating scholarly research that informs leaders on the policies and practices that can help their countries become more peaceful, safe, and economically prosperous. Previously I was a Senior Consultant at Build Consulting, where I was able to pursue my passion of helping nonprofits to transform how they work. I enjoyed being surrounded by a team of experts with deep experience in the field who strove to have the greatest positive impact at nonprofits across the country and globe. And before Build, I was the Director of IT at the Capital Area Food Bank, where I set the strategic IT direction and lead my team in modernizing our IT systems. Nonprofits are forced to do much with very limited resources, and I thrive on the challenge of discovering new technologies and service providers that increase functionality or decrease cost. I’m committed to leveraging existing systems and maximizing ROI through effective data governance. I collaborate effectively with other leaders by utilizing a broad set of leadership skills gained early in my career as an Executive Director of a Habitat for Humanity affiliate and in my senior consultant and CIO positions. In my free time, I volunteer as a board member and IT leader at VineCorps, an organization that provides life skills training and a supportive environment for young adults. When I want to unplug, I enjoy biking and swimming, in addition to loving hiking, scuba diving, and skiing out West. I love to travel, a hobby spurred by my international worldview developed while growing up in Central and South America.ExpertiseStrategic IT Planning and Execution | Software System Selection | Database Management Cloud Computing | Mobility and Collaboration Technologies | Information Security | Team Building
