GlycoMantra is a biotech start-up that is involved in the development and commercialization of innovative glycobiology-based therapeutics for treating various resistant cancers including prostate, breast, colorectal, lung, pancreatic, and kidney cancer with high clinical utility to improve and extend lives.Our initial focus has been in the treatment of prostate cancer. There is a significant unmet need in the treatment of androgen/hormone resistant metastatic prostate cancer as current standard of care drugs are ineffective in overcoming resistance and patients eventually die. To-date we have identified and validated galectin-3 as a druggable target, developed and optimized the lead compound, and generated very promising pre-clinical data with our lead candidate GM101 in vitro and in vivo that inhibits galectin-3, a glycoprotein overexpressed in resistant prostate cancer.We have received over $2.3M in non-dilutive grants from NIH/NCI, TEDCO (State of Maryland Investment Arm), and MII which has enabled us to de-risk and advance our technology. Our pre-clinical data shows that GM101 demonstrates high clinical utility in treating resistant prostate cancer and can be used as a first line therapeutic or in conjunction with current standard of care drugs based on androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). We also have a multiple drug development pipeline for other indications including resistant breast, colorectal, and kidney cancer. Our pipeline also has drugs targeting lung and liver fibrosis (NASH) and Type-2 diabetes as Galectin-3 is also overexpressed in these indications that our drugs can target and inhibit. We are seeking $10M in seed for completing our IND enabling studies and ~$45M in Series A to advance to clinical trials (Phase 1/1b/2) in Zytiga (abiraterone)/Xtandi (enzalutamide) drug resistant metastatic prostate cancer patients.
