ABOUT SAMANTHA CALVILLO
Experienced clinical social worker passionate about culturally responsive, trauma-informed care. I specialize in working with survivors of sexual trauma, with a focus on the intersection of healing and Latinx/o cultural identity. In both my private practice, and in my role as a crisis counselor and therapist at a rape crisis center, I serve as a therapist and advocate. My clinical approach is grounded in empathy, empowerment, and a deep understanding of how cultural values like familismo, gender roles, and faith shape mental health and healing. My doctoral research explored how therapists can better assess the cultural needs of Latina survivors and integrate those findings into effective, evidence-based treatment. I’m especially interested in bridging clinical practice with research to improve mental health outcomes for marginalized communities.Whether in session, in research, or in advocacy, my goal is always the same: to center the voices of survivors and support their healing with dignity, cultural humility, and care.
