Integrative and Interdisciplinary Learning Capstone: A seminar for the Liberal Education Program. This course requires students to integrate and synthesize diverse perspectives to achieve interdisciplinary understanding and exploration of the relationships among academic knowledge, professional pursuits, and the responsibilities of local and global citizenship. Specific focus for this course included a study of the interrelationships between terrorism and the mass media. An examination of various ways media cover acts of terrorism and terrorists, and how terrorists and media coverage influence the public agenda.Interpersonal Communication. An introduction to the knowledge and skills of interpersonal communication. The course content includes facilitation of more effective and supportive behavior, reduction of communication barriers and development of increased skill and confidence in relationships. Oral Communication. A study of verbal and nonverbal communication skills as they apply to public presentations. The course content includes facilitation of more effective communication to help learners achieve their personal and professional goals.Organizational Behavior. Examines theoretical and practical perspectives and experiences in the areas of motivation and human relations; individual behavior, small group behavior, intergroup behavior, organizational effectiveness, and organizational development. Public Speaking. Practical application of public speaking theory to help students speak clearly and express ideas effectively before an audience. Students plan, compose, and deliver a variety of informative and persuasive speeches. Principles of effective rhetorical presentations are related to basic purposes and forms of public speech communication.
