ABOUT PETER TIERNEY
Currently working as a Senior Research Scientist at lululemon Product Innovation. Experience & passion in innovation, health & performance, mentorship and project management. Love connecting with new people and always open to chat & discuss things. I\'m curious to experience a wide variety of environments, people, industries and cultures - and hence find myself shifting from an elite sporting world to the apparel industry. There are many differences but even more similarities. I have the pleasure of working with many ambassadors & athletes still in my current role, which I find most rewarding and exciting. Previously 8 years working in high-performance sport in football / soccer (The English FA), rugby union (Leinster Rugby), and swimming (UCD elite team) as a hybrid Performance Coach & Sports Scientist. I also have experience with Gaelic football & hurling, amateur rugby union, and schools level rugby and hockey. My experience spans across male and female athletes across a wide age range. I have broad experiences in sports science, strength & conditioning, sport performance, health and wellness, and athletic performance development. The application of technology to support health and performance in people, athletes and teams are strong interests of mine. I completed my PhD titled:\"Novel insights into understanding performance in professional rugby union: an applied sports science approach\" alongside my full time work in both Leinster & The FA. My MSc in Research completed alongside working full time with Leinster Rugby explored the “Application of GPS technology in professional rugby union\". To support and supplement my roles and interests in health and performance, I have completed a ProfDip in Data Analytics & Statistics, to help me better translate and visualise the performance, strength and conditioning data which was being collected in my roles. I also have tried to develop skills and language to allow me to better communicate to data scientists and analysts. My BSc Health & Performance Science final year thesis examined the effect of caffeinated chewing gum on repeated sprint ability in team sport athletes.
