ABOUT DAVID ROBERTSHAW
As an experienced commercial finance business partner my goal is to drive the business forward using data, understand what needs changing through improving insight and understanding of current performance then change what needs changing by developing strategies built on the details data provides.I love to use my skills to work with commercial functions to help them understand financial measures, performance and how to drive sales and margin growth. I have worked across many functions including manufacturing, supply chain, sales and marketing and enjoy the fast moving and complex worlds of CPG/FMCG and retail. As a naturally inquisitive problem solver, finding patterns, solving problems and identifying opportunities with data to drive strategic goals is where I thrive. This has seen me- Taking large sets of complex data to develop and roll out (across non-finance functions) an insightful Volume/Mix/Price analysis tool that is easy to use, understand and became widely adopted- Lead the financials for brand budget planning days – turning ideas into detail and ensuring they stack up financially to produce a draft category and brand budget on the go in a fast-moving commercial workshop- Build simple regression models from disparate data sets to validate internal sales vs external market and share performance to add extra context to financial results and validate forecast assumptions. As a continuous learner who always wants the best tools to do the job, I am investing in developing my data analytics skills on a 6-month LSE Data Analytics Career Accelerator course, where I’m learning how to leverage SQL, Python, R & Tableau to improve my data skills to drive better insights.Combined with my experience and financial background I am using the skills learnt to bridge the gap between the technical and commercial functions with the goal to propel businesses forward. I will be able to understand the data we have and how to manage it, break down the jargon and improve understanding, save time on understanding the drivers of business performance so more time can be invested on actions and use the data at our disposal to make decisions with confidence.
