The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in the Department of the Interior (DOI), provides scientific information about geologic processes to mitigate risks from natural hazards and to support the management of water, energy, mineral, ecosystem, and land resources. The USGS also collects long-term Earth observations to understand geologic and ecosystem processes, using satellite imagery, mapping, and ground-based instruments to measure changes. The Scientific Integrity Officer is located in the Office of Science Quality and Integrity (OSQI), which is responsible for monitoring and enhancing the integrity, quality, and health of all USGS science through executive oversight and development of strong practices, policy, and supporting programs.As the USGS Scientific Integrity Officer, a senior level (SL) position, serves as a Department expert in scientific integrity, providing authoritative scientific integrity advice, opinions, training, and policy guidance for all levels of employees including senior managers, scientists and technical experts and other employees. Application of significant subject-matter expertise helps to protect and enhance the integrity and reputation of the USGS, the Department and its employees. The role supports more than scientists, technicians, and non-science staff in more than 400 locations across the United States.In this role, acts as a Department subject-matter expert on an extensive range of research misconduct and other sensitive integrity issues as well as serving as an expert consultant on similar topics for the Departmental Scientific Integrity Officer. Supports the Department’s Bureaus in developing scientific integrity guidance and operating procedures designed to ensure all research misconduct advice provided throughout the Department meets all statutory and regulatory requirements of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Department, and the unique needs of USGS employees.

ABOUT MAGGIE HARDY
Dr Maggie Hardy is an experienced executive who has held a range of senior leadership roles in the public service in Australia and the United States. Internationally recognized for her scientific and leadership contributions, Maggie is a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders (Australia and New Zealand), Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society (United Kingdom), and a Member of the Australian Institute for Company Directors.
