CAHIIM’s accreditation practice is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board is charged with developing accreditation standards, and then assessing whether individual programs meet those standards. CAHIIM partners with professional organizations to ensure the Curriculum Standard contains the content and competencies required by that profession.Two councils, one each for Health Information Management and Health Informatics, conduct reviews of academic programs, including site visits, and make recommendations to the Board for program accreditation.

ABOUT LAVERNE MANOS
Visionary academic leader and national health informatics expert with over 15 years of experience directing graduate programs in nursing, health administration, and health informatics. Recognized for advancing accreditation standards across multiple bodies, developing innovative curricula (telehealth, simulation, online “course-as-simulation,” and online/distance learning models that go far beyond discussion boards and papers), and fostering exceptional faculty and student success.Board-certified in Nursing Informatics (NI-BC) and a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA), with national service that includes leadership roles with CAHIIM, AMIA with focus on educational program accreditation and professional certification.I currently serve as Professor and Department Chair of Health Administration & Nursing at A.T. Still University, College of Graduate Health Studies where I lead faculty development, accreditation readiness, program modernization, and strategic expansion across the MHA, DHA, and Nursing programs. My work emphasizes academic quality, interprofessional alignment, and the development of leaders who can thrive in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment.Previously, I served in principle-level informatics and global strategy roles, including as a Vice President of Informatics and a global strategist for Cerner Corporation, working across over 40 countries to design, implement, and optimize EHR systems and enterprise clinical operations. I have directed major projects involving perioperative documentation, service-line redesign, quality and safety initiatives, and large-scale technology transformation and integrationAcross all roles, my core strength is lifting organizations: modernizing programs, aligning with national standards, driving innovation, and building teams that deliver excellence.
