About Lauren Colston
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC as well as a nationally registered Health Service Psychologist (HSP). A professional goal of mine is to deliver effective behavioral and mental healthcare that meets the needs of the community and agency that I am serving. My experiences, clinical and personal, have provided me with opportunities to work as a mental health leader, clinical consultant and educator, program coordinator, psychiatric crisis responder, psychological evaluator, and a well-rounded clinician still willing to learn. While working in different settings with culturally diverse individuals, I\'ve acquired an ability to expand the way mental health services are administered to consumers and within an organization.

The Clinical Psychologist performs a wide variety of tasks within schools Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) collaborating with school leaders, mental health professionals, and student support staff. As a KIPP DC Clinical Psychologist, I guide the educational team in making clinically appropriate decisions in the best interest of the student and surrounding the planning IEP and 504 goals. Clinical psychologist also provide psychological assessments on a case by case basis to assist the student support team (SST) in implementing effective academic services, behavioral intervention plans, and refer to the appropriate level of mental health providers. Additional primary responsibilities include the delivery of school based therapy (SBT) and supports for Tier 3 students and caregivers. Support services that I provide as a school-based clinical psychologist entails parent and/or teacher coaching, consultation and implementation of crisis response techniques, psychoeducation through different modalities, being an active member of the Tier 3 team, and deliver professional development trainings for KIPP DC educators, social workers, and school administrators.
