ABOUT KITSIA HUGHEY FERGUSON

The waking sounds of early-morning inspire me to be creative and challenge myself to see everyday things a little differently. Often my thoughts focus on how to use education as a vehicle to push creativity, collaborative problem-solving, and peace. Rarely does one-size-fits-all and the same should be said about educational services. I am passionate about building specific educational models to address the unique needs of any given market\'s students, families, and community at large. My education along with experiences in the business as well as education sectors have afforded me a skill set to builds systems and infrastructure that support organizational health and growth particular to the consumer market. My ability to tailor both verbal and written communications to specific audiences allows me to articulate a vision and garner buy-in. Bringing a diversity of perspectives to the table creates a forum to identify and manage the unique needs of the community being served. Building on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the community breaks the mold of a one-size-fits-all education delivery system. I collect Earth from around the world (usually in the form of sand). I love the feel of the Earth as it makes me feel closer to God and connected with what grounds us all. With the help of my family, friends, and students, my collection contains samples from five of the seven continents. The Earth samples have different characteristics based on their geographical origin. Some are light in weight and color-tone, some are dense, and dark in color-tone. I am in awe and appreciate the Earth\'s ability to nurture these qualities and Mother Nature’s love that creates conditions for each of these areas to thrive. I often refer to my Earth collection to make my case as to why the one- size-fits-all model of education doesn\'t get the most out of what communities have to offer.
