About Joseph Pina

Over 11 years’ experience as a physician administrator, 9 years at executive-level (CEO, CMO, VP), 28 years in clinical practice, and 3 years as a healthcare consultant and executive leader coach. I have served in executive-level positions in two healthcare systems linked to high reliability, quality & patient safety, allowing me to facilitate culture change by bringing expertise, focus, deep relationship building and thought leadership, and working with C-suite peers to develop strategic/operational direction. Successfully performed in an environment of hospital system growth and optimizing performance. Leader coaching in HRO for the VA over the past 2.5 yrs has been my latest passion. I am honored to work with great network and medical center directors in the VHA. As a retired Army officer, I have built a portfolio spanning healthcare management and business of medicine within the Federal and civilian non-profit health sectors. I engage with stakeholders by building relationships and high-performing teams, tapping into strategic, operational, legal, financial and human resources in support of organizational priorities and objectives. Although I am no longer in active clinical practice, I am adept in connecting with physicians and providers in addressing their needs and engagement. I believe that the best way to achieve goals is to have a strong vision and to connect with people. I believe in Patrick Lencioni\'s teaching that vulnerability-based Trust is the foundation of any successful organization. Add to that Positivity in Leadership and the method of Humble Inquiry, and you have great opportunities ahead. I am driven to improve patient experience through the advancement of the quality and safety of care, the attention to customer service, and the wellness of our team members. I retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Colonel and acquired a Masters in Strategic Studies at the Army War College. I am experienced as a TeamSTEPPS instructor, ACLS/ATLS instructor and associate clinical professor in three academic medical universities. I work easily with the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, the Epic EMR, HCAHPS (Press Ganey) and Quality/Safety (Premier) platforms. I have conducted webinars on high reliability, quality and safety and led town halls & conferences on Zoom & MSTeams. I am knowledgeable in hospital operations, revenue cycle management, videoconferencing, and writing/reviewing physician-based contracts. My fun? Walking and running with my dog, grilling, sous vide, watching sci-fi, listening to music, and family time.
