I turn code into lasers, wafers into data, short deadlines into results, and wild ideas into funding. My technical area covers tunable lasers and a lot of specialized PICs. I’m involved with all aspects - epi and laser design, mask layout, process transfer to foundries and manufacturing, characterization including some pretty involved failure analysis, teasing future photonic platform direction out of complex and messy datasets, and managing a (very) small team. I also write proposals, find overlaps between programs, solve problems impacting yield, train and support new designers, and try to qualify lasers to go into orbit.

I\'m a versatile scientist, trained in an engineering lab. My PhD specialization was in organic electronics, but I have since moved on to photonics. Light might be even cooler than matter.Things I do fairly well and enjoy: tunable laser and PIC design, failure analysis and futureproofinghiding in a cave and writing code (modeling, data analysis, photonic mask layout, etc)finding hidden trends in complex and messy datasets, and using them to determine future development directionsgetting data out of tricky-to-characterize samplesdesigning small experiments (or small test structures to put on a wafer) that yield major insights the technical side of program management - finding overlaps, strategic de-risking, working with engineers with different skill sets to develop cool new technology (especially if it might end up in orbit)writing proposalsmanaging and mentoring a small team of engineersI am unwilling to relocate within the US, but would make an international move for the right opportunity.The best way to reach me is by email: j••••••••@gmail.com
