My research focuses on advancing the scientific understanding of the Earth\'s climate system across field, regional, and planetary scales. At the field scale, I am the Principal Investigator of the Surface Atmosphere Integrated Field Laboratory (SAIL) Campaign, which is the deployment of an atmospheric observatory to the Upper Colorado River Basin to study the atmosphere, in conjunction with surface and subsurface observations, to understand why the water resources from that Basin are changing so rapidly. This hydrology-focused project is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy\'s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) and Atmospheric System Research (ASR) Programs. I lead a large team across 4 national labs, 2 research centers and 10 universities and work with a wide range of geoscientists, as well as stakeholders. At the regional scale, I lead an effort that produced the dataset of record for temperature, precipitation, humidity, and solar radiation projections for the NCA5 and co-lead the creation of a downscaling community of practice for CONUS. These projections start with a wide range of climate models, but build off of those results using downscaling from the Localized Constructed Analogs and the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) models. They therefore have local information on weather patterns and their extremes. I lead a team at LBNL, UCLA, UCSD, USACE, and Indiana University which is supported by the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program. Finally, at the planetary scale, I am a co-investigator on the NASA Libera mission to provide continuity to energy budget measurements of our Earth. Libera will provide measurements of the total amount of shortwave and longwave energy available for the Earth\'s climate system. I run radiative transfer simulations for this mission. Finally, I advise Terrafuse on how different environmental factors contribute to elevating risk for wildfire and wind losses.
