About Drew Price
I love to make things, love to learn, and I really love learning how to make things better. My professional, academic, and hobby experiences have given me a broad background bringing ideas to life. I believe the most interesting and rewarding part of engineering is giving character, purpose, and pleasure to people\'s interactions with what would otherwise just be inanimate objects. Specialties: Intimate familiarity with design, qualification and acceptance testing engineered systems, CAD/CAM design, user-centered design, mechanical design, design for manufacturing, serviceability, and assembly, welding, material selection and after-treatments, rapid-prototype generation, debugging of mechanical and analog and digital system controls and signals, design of ultra-high pressure vessels and pressurized systems, manual and CNC machine operation.
Experience
Machine Shop Manager
Nov 2019 — Present · CA
The machine shops at Mudd are umbrella\'d under the deparment of Engineering (my own background) but enthusiastically serve all departments of Harvey Mudd College (HMC), and all members of the Claremont College Consortium (5C\'s/7C\'s.). I teach safety in machine operation and fabrication, manufacturing methods & techniques, and tips and tricks about how to build things! Digitally I also teach CAD/CAM and digital design. I have the pleasure of working with a talented and dedicated team of student Machine Shop Proctors. The Shop Proctors are the first point of contact who provide in-person oversight and guidance to all users of our Student Shops. The shops are generally open seven days a week from 12noon-10pm.I manage both the Student and Advanced Machine shops at HMC. I am here to provide guidance, assistance, and an extra pair of hands for any needs that any member of Mudd or the 5C\'s may need. The shops and I are here to support the curricular, research, and personal project needs in any way that they present themselves.I am lucky enough to work with extraordinarily talented and motivated students, supportive and enthusiastic faculty and staff, and all of the creative projects that we come up with together. The HMC shops are inspirational fabrication, prototyping, and experimental spaces for new and old engineers, makers, and creators. We have everything from traditional woodworking equipment, to CNC metal cutting machinery, welding, and cutting edge rapid and digital prototyping equipmnent. Anyone with a wilingness to learn can be trained to use and create in the shop spaces.Come visit us and make something amazing!
