ABOUT CHRISTINE CHENG
Dr Christine Cheng is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in War Studies at King’s College London. Dr Cheng is an award-winning author and teacher with expertise in peacebuilding, international conflict, and corruption. Her research on war-to-peace transitions has generated lasting policy impact in UK foreign policy.Working with the UK government’s Stabilisation Unit, she co-authored Securing and Sustaining Elite Bargains that Reduce Violent Conflict, the foundation document for the UK’s conflict stabilisation policy. Recent projects include: Civilian Conflict Experiences in Iraq, Fallacies of International Statebuilding, and Research Ethics and the Study of Armed Actors. Dr Cheng also has experience leading large complex interdisciplinary projects (politics, psychology, health, gender, law) in conflict-affected countries.She is co-edits the Palgrave Book Series Twenty-first Century Perspectives on War, Peace, and Human Conflict. She has been a regular workshop convenor at the annual Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS).At King’s, she teaches on the MA in Conflict, Security, and Development and has previously served as Programme Director. Dr Cheng also founded Strife blog and the annual Conflict, Security, and Development conference.Previously, Dr Cheng was the Boskey Fellow in Politics at Exeter College, Oxford, and the Cadieux-Léger Fellow at Global Affairs Canada. Dr Cheng holds a DPhil from Oxford (Nuffield), an MPA from Princeton, and a BASc in systems design engineering from Waterloo. Dr Cheng is a trustee for Conciliation Resources, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of swisspeace, and a Governing Council Member of the Conflict Research Society.She is available for consultancy work for government, international organisations, donor agencies, and NGOs. She is an experienced commentator for print, television, radio, and podcast news outlets.A long, long time ago, Dr Cheng also worked for the UN, the World Bank, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and McDonald’s. These days, she is also co-owner of Cinnamon Holiday Home, a short-term rentals business. Away from work, you can find her on the padel court.
