ABOUT ANDREW C POOLEY
As a former Lecturer in Industrial Design at Loughborough University, Andrew led modules and mentored students on shaping technologies in society through a Critical Design perspective. Drawing on his background in user experience design, architecture, and design research, he guided learners to question assumptions, explore meaning, and design with purpose. After completing his PhD in Human–Computer Interaction, Andrew continued at Loughborough as a Research Associate, working on funded projects focused on consumer needs, sustainability, and the adoption of emerging technologies. During this time, he also gained industry experience as a Lead UX Researcher at Fitbod, a San Francisco-based fitness technology company, where he used user-centred methods to develop digital experiences that support health, motivation, and behaviour change. Balancing both roles enabled him to combine the academic rigour of postdoctoral research with the flexible and iterative processes of product-focused design, a dual perspective that continues to shape his approach. Now at Jaguar Land Rover, Andrew brings this blend of evidence-based inquiry and creative agility to the automotive sector. As a User Researcher in the In-Vehicle Infotainment team, he integrates academic research methods with real-world product delivery, working on cross-functional, funded projects that translate user insights into design decisions within practical constraints. He collaborates closely with engineers, designers, and human factors specialists to ensure every interaction between driver and technology feels intuitive, meaningful, and human.Andrew is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Pro.Play® Certified Facilitator, an Associate Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), and a Mental Health Champion—demonstrating his commitment to excellence and wellbeing in every environment he works in.
