ABOUT ALI N. DAMJI

Dr. Ali Damji is an academic family physician and addiction medicine physician at the Credit Valley Family Health Team and Family Medicine Teaching Unit in Mississauga, Ontario, where he also serves as Quality Improvement Program Director. He has previously held roles as THP\'s Division Head of Primary Care where he led over 300 primary care physicians, Physician Lead for the COVID-19 Assessment Centres, Clinical Lead for the COVID-19 Vaccination Centres and was a member of the Professional Staff Association Executive. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine, University of Toronto, and Clinical Investigator at the Institute for Better Health. His practice consists of primary care, palliative care, QI, medical education, research, and leadership locally, provincially, and nationally. He works part-time as an addiction medicine physician at Halton & Mississauga RAAM Clinic. He is the Honorary Secretary Treasurer of the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine, member of the Medical Post Advisory Board, member of the Ontario Medical Association Family Practice Policy & Advocacy Committee, and Board of Directors of the Centre for Effective Practice. He has studied health care systems around the world and co-authored a series of best practices and quality indicators for the optimal handling and utilization of patient complaints for quality improvement. At the Hospital for Sick Children he was part of a team that designed and implemented a fast-paced change management project within the Paediatric Medicine wards that resulted in a new daytime hospital ward, reducing unnecessary overnight stay. He has worked internationally in Jonkoping, Sweden as a research fellow to complete a quality improvement project related to patients with liver disease. He has spoken at the Canadian Medical Association Annual Meeting and the Canadian Conference on Physician Leadership on intra-professionalism.He has been recognized with CFPC Award of Excellence, multiple teaching awards from the University of Toronto, COVID Hero Award from the City of Mississauga, Canadian Medical Association Award for Young Leaders, Trillium Health Partners\' Citizenship Award, the Leadership Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada twice, Citizenship Award from the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario, the Student Achievement Award from the Ontario Medical Association, and the University of Toronto\'s Dr. Jarvis Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Life.
