ABOUT ALEXANDER YOUNG

I have over 30 years of experience in psychiatry, medical education, clinical and health services research, clinical informatics, and physician leadership. I am board certified in psychiatry and clinical informatics. I focus on clinical and health services research, treatment of mental illness, and improving the organization, quality and value of healthcare. I have led research and education studying and improving the quality of care, including the structure, processes, and outcomes of care. I have led research on the implementation and effectiveness of clinical informatics that support improvement in healthcare, and innovative care models to improve care.My mission is to improve the treatment and outcomes of people with mental illness, using implementation science, health informatics, and effective care practices. I have led numerous national and multi-site studies and programs to provide and improve healthcare, enhance health systems, and support clinical decision making. I co-founded the schizophrenia program at UCLA, established community clozapine clinics, was lead psychiatrist for a national SAMHSA SMI Advisor education initiative, and have led large research and clinical organizations. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and mentored and trained many students, residents, and fellows.
