ABOUT ALLISON EDWARDS

I am an entrepreneur, consultant, and practicing family physician who routinely rants about the cost of healthcare - and also works to fix it.I am passionate about transparently priced healthcare and lowering healthcare costs for all — ideally by reimagining the technology we use and chipping away at the entrenched systems. I wear several hats, all of which keep me clinically grounded while taking aim at the structural problems in the US healthcare system- I take great pride in the work we do at Sesame in providing a marketplace for transparently priced healthcare accessible to anyone and eschewing insurers- I spent the last 6 years founding, growing, and eventually selling my direct primary care practice — I’m still involved in our new partnership by providing as-needed coverage to my peers but have stepped away from day-to-day involvement- I keep my clinical skills sharp — and get to see numerous healthcare systems, EHRs, and tech setups — by working at various sites through PRN/locum tenens arrangements serving in the hospital and ER settings. I have the privileged headache of being credentialed at dozens of hospitals and have even more state licenses, but this perspective is invaluable in understanding how, on the ground, healthcare works — or doesn’t!
