ABOUT DRABE NICKSON
I am an early career Pharmacist, passionate about Local Pharmaceutical Production in Uganda and Africa at large. I have four years of practical experience in product formulation at Miowa Pharmaceuticals Limited in Uganda. I also engage in teaching (as part-time staff) undergraduate Pharmaceutics and Cosmetic Science at Makerere University Pharmacy Department. In this, I focus on inspiring young pharmacy students to their full passion of championing domestic Pharmaceutical Production.I believe that the African continent is rich with the agro-resources that can be upgraded to meet the standards of Pharmaceutical Grade excipients (such as starch, sucrose, gelatin etc.) to enable import substitution of key Pharmaceutical Raw Materials. With deliberate National policies sculpted to support this, I am convinced that it is possible to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of value-chain industries that will feed the pharma industry on the African continent.Young pharmacists across the continent need to be inspired to embrace local manufacturing and take intentional steps to realise The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa (PMPA) adopted by AUDA-NEPAD. Personally, I have committed my passion to this cause.
