ABOUT YANNICK PAUCHET
I combine classic molecular biology and biochemistry to evolutionary and genomics approaches to address fundamental questions on how animals adapt to their environment. My primary interest lies in understanding the role of the digestive system in the adaptation of insects to their ecological niche. Specifically, my work focuses on how some lineages of phytophagous beetles (leaf beetles, longhorned beetles and weevils) break down the various components of the plant cell wall, which make the bulk of their food, via the acquisition and evolution of novel gene families of digestive enzymes.During our screenings, we started to identify enzymes showing potential for biotechnological applications that we are investigating further. I am a strong believer in the industrial application of basic academic science.
