About Vinod Kumar Vadivel

My research focuses on the advanced oxidation process (AOPs) and free radical assisted wastewater technology to degrade anthropogenic pollutants persisting in secondary/tertiary effluent in technical and environmental systems. I am particularly interested in developing advanced oxidation and reduction technology tools to physiochemically understand the fate, transport, and biological interactions of particles, such as metal colloids, engineered nanomaterials and sustainable materials. In this context, I use these results to information risk assessments of anthropogenic pollutants and propose solutions for sustainable secondary/tertiary and drinking water. I have authored and co-authored more than 33 articles in journals indexed by (WOS/Scopus) with more than (>120 cumulative impact factor, 18 h-index), two book chapters (Elsevier pub.) and a few conference proceedings. During my last four years (2017–21) as a Postdoctoral fellow, my research objectives have significantly impacted the current challenges for water treatment applications and led to several internal and external funding opportunities (i.e. ISF science foundation; BMBF Israel-Germany; SPARK-Israel-India) with Prof. Hadas Mamane. I am also a guest editor for Applied science (Special edition), MDPI; active reviewer for more than ten peer-reviewed scientific journals (i.e, Water Research, ACS ES & T). Additionally, I also acquired three articles as corresponding authors in highly reputed peer-reviewed journals (ACS I & EC; ACS Omega; HazMat) and co-authored several articles in association with Prof. Philip Anthony; Prof Hadas Mamane and Prof. Dror Avisar, which include (i.e, ACS, RSC and Elsevier publications). Therefore, achieving excellent results and constantly executing great work, felicitated with a prestigious PBC postdoctoral fellowship and TATA-TAU excellence award, brings great satisfaction for all the determination and efforts. I have also taught open laboratory courses in material chemistry and techniques, advanced nanomaterials and nanotechnology for the water treatment processes and received the prestigious Moshe mirilashvili award to support the analytical and wastewater-based applied research. Currently, I have supervised 18 student projects at all levels of education (Ph.D, Master, Bachelor and special courses, also in collaboration with industry) I have contributed to maintaining knowledge and connection to crucial international research groups and individuals concerning sustainability assessment, residual resources, and environmental engineering systems and technologies.

Currently available advanced wastewater cleaning techniques are needed to meet United Nations\' Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) and ensure our water services remain sustainable. Industry, agriculture and domestic wastewater all contribute to water pollution. The micropollutants from these are found in surface, ground, drinking and treated water, and can cause long-term, severe effects on the environment and human health. However, conventional water treatment technologies, such as ltration, sedimentation, and coagulation/precipitation and biological treatment techniques do not achieve complete degradation of all harmful pollutants, and often have to be used in combination to achieve a high standard of water quality. They also usually come with issues such as how to dispose of toxic byproducts of the cleaning process. Along with clear policies that monitor the release of pollutants to the environment, regulate the purification treatment of wastewater and encourage reuse of clean wastewater. Upgrading wastewater treatment plants to eliminate pollutants is one way to curb their release into the environment.
