ABOUT VEDANT GAUTAM
I am a Plant Pathologist and Nematologist with a PhD focused on decoding the molecular and metabolic basis of plant-nematode interactions in rice. My doctoral research integrated transcriptomics, ¹H-NMR and LC-MS metabolomics, confocal histopathology, biochemical defense assays and functional pathway analysis to unravel durable resistance mechanisms against Meloidogyne graminicola.Currently, I serve as a Senior Research Fellow in the Fungal Genome Sequencing Initiative in Oilseeds and Pulses (Madhya Pradesh), where I work on pathogen survey, whole genome sequencing, genome assembly, functional annotation and identification of virulence genes, effector repertoires and secondary metabolite biosynthetic clusters. My work bridges field epidemiology, molecular biology and bioinformatics to build genomic resources for precision crop protection.My broader research interests lie in fungal genomics, plant-pathogen interactions, nanobiotechnology and multi-omics integration for developing sustainable and translational disease management strategies.I am particularly interested in collaborative research that advances functional validation, comparative genomics, and systems-level understanding of host defense networks.
