ABOUT TOMASZ JOHN
I lead our Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Institute of Education (IoE) Global Engagement strategy. My role encompasses strategic planning and fostering collaborations that enhance our institute\'s global presence. In this role I bring my PhD insights to internationalisation at home, international student recruitment and the advancement of global education.As a Teaching Fellow in TESOL, I draw upon my expertise in language education to support our diverse student body and faculty. With a strong academic background encompassing degrees in Internationalisation of Higher Education, Educational Policy, TESOL, and Applied Linguistics, I have amassed extensive experience in the international higher education sector. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to teach and supervise Applied Linguistics and TESOL students, deepening their knowledge of language policies, curriculum design, methodologies, language awareness, and intercultural communication. I contribute to teaching on the MSc TESOLIC, BA Education and TESOL and the iPGCE programmes. Currently, I serve as the Communications Officer of two BAAL SIGs - Language Education for Social Justice and Language Curriculum.My research focuses on social justice and re-imagining the Internationalisation of Higher Education, challenging assumptions about international students, promoting cultural sensitivity in pedagogical approaches, and fostering a university culture that embraces diverse academic and intellectual traditions. Through my career and research, I have actively contributed to the development of institutional vision and culture by implementing comprehensive internationalisation strategies into university life.In my recent engagement as the Director of Global Engagement, the focus has been on creating scholarly activities and international opportunities that resonate with the dynamic trends of higher education. My commitment to the Internationalization of Higher Education is evidenced by the establishment of the IoE StrathEduGlobal working group and contributions to the IoE Research Sub-theme: Social Justice in Multilingual Contexts. These initiatives reflect a dedication to not only fostering an inclusive academic environment but also to steering our educational offerings to meet the needs of a global audience.
