ABOUT SYLVIE ALBERT

Author of five books on smart/intelligent/sustainable communities or cities, and one book on public governance under complexity. Dr. Sylvie Albert spent 12 years in municipal and provincial government posts, 10 years in management consulting, and 20 years in academia. She was a special advisor to the Canadian Federal Government on the Smart Cities Challenge, the lead jurist for the Intelligent Community Forum in New York for more than 10 years; a speaker at national and international conferences, and continues to contribute as a member of the scientific committee of the Global Forum on Digitalization annual conference, think tanks and white papers.Dr. Albert owned a Management Consulting Firm, Planned Approach Inc. overseeing economic development and intelligent community projects across Canada. She was also the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University and responsible for its accreditation, a management development centre and the launch of Professions North.As the past Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics and of Continuing Education at the University of Winnipeg, Dr. Albert launched several new programs including a graduate degree in Innovation, a new undergraduate specialization, articulations with colleges and universities, a Coop program, an entrepreneurship link, online programs, and multiple industry and international partnerships & development initiatives. She teaches Strategy, Leadership, Organizational Behaviour, and Entrepreneurship.Dr. Albert has been highly active on boards and organizations, lately she is a board member and the chair of governance at Red River Mutual Insurance, member of the Information and Communication Technology Council of Canada Smart Cities Initiative; and involved in research on the contributions of private sector to sustainability with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.
